Interview: Garst Tyrell

Posted in Uncategorized on July 18, 2015 by shaleelianne

Thank you for doing this interview, Garst. How did you come up with your name?

Garst is the combination of the first few letters from my first and last name. Tyrell doesn’t have a specific influence but I could possibly have been thinking of Blade Runner or that imperial commander from Star Wars in the back of my mind. I’ve been using the Garst Tyrell handle since I played my first MMO Star Wars Galaxies back in like 2005.

How long have you been playing EVE? Is Garst your original toon?

Garst is my main and first toon. I started playing in FEB 2009 on trial after Age of Conan got boring.

What is the most appealing thing about EVE? Also, least appealing?

I love the high skill ceiling for organizations and individuals. More preparation really does pay off and the more organized, more dedicated party will reap the rewards for their hard work. There is always something new to learn, a more innovative or efficient way to do something. Fights are unpredictable and are about as far removed from a tourney 6 v 6 counter-strike or DOTA match as you can get. The flip side is the high barrier of entry to some parts of the game. Groups that have historically done something very well are able to shut out new contestants from the most lucrative arenas, which leads to my answer to the next question…

If you could change one thing about EVE what would it be?

The stagnation of coalition politics. Its natural after 10 years that leaders would learn to work with each other for their benefit and CCP has done little to encourage conflict between them. The years N3 spent with sov stretching from Cobalt Edge to Period Basis was a low point for the game that I fortunately missed.

What other games do you play besides EVE?

Loads over the years but since stepping up for TRI I mainly play single player games during luls to unwind. I don’t play any other multiplayer games at the moment. I just finished Dragon Age Inquisition and I’m currently playing through Pillars of Eternity. Next up Witcher III.

I know that you pretty much started your EVE career in Amarr FactionWar, and now you fly in Null. What did you enjoy about FW? Why did you leave it?

In 2009 FW was a lot different than it is today. There were no FW missions that encouraged gimmicky LP grinding for isk that dumbed everything down to frigs vs frigs. The EVE population in 2009 was much higher, and so there was an equally larger proportion in FW and low sec piracy. FW was a great place at the time to learn the game and pick up FCing as you could regularly get into battleship and the rare capital fight. You just don’t see those anymore. I had the pleasure of Fcing some of the largest fights in low sec in a while including a Amarr vs Minnie POS fight over a Star Fraction staging titan staging pos in Kamela on Halloween in 2009 and then later an Amarr vs minnie POS fight in Heimatar over a Dark Rising corp POS in which I was able to get CVA involved. I left because it was time to take my corp out of FW and prepare for my long term goal–nullsec warfare. NoMercy pirated around a little and then joined the old Gentlemen’s Club alliance (no affiliation to the current incarnation) in Scalding Pass as part of the ATLAS bloc. We had a lot of fun there and that was my first exposure to null sec wars, but that’s a story in its own right.

Have you tried other parts of the game, like wormholes or high sec?

I briefly roamed into wormholes as a noob with my bud Raphael Saint, both of us in navy omens. We lived out an anchored can in a safe in the earliest day of their addition to the game when they were fresh and still wild areas. I think CCP allowing anchorable POS in wormholes killed a lot of that wonder and it was a missed opportunity to develop them as a roaming, nomadic experience for EVE players. NoMercy dabbled in offline high-sec POS bashing and war-decs while in faction war, and had an ongoing war-dec from Star Fraction that bled over into high-sec.

What are some of the benefits of living in null versus other sec’s of the game?

Bubbles. Its amazing how much a single game play mechanic can drastically change the quality of play and options available for fleet pvp. In low-sec fights are consensual or require brawling with hard tackle in order to keep enemy fleets from running. For this reason almost every low-sec fight is based around armor, usually t3 doctrines. Throw bubbles in the mix and everything changes. All of a sudden the geometry of fleets fighting each others matter. Defensive bubbling, slings, walls, every angle allows you to control range or suck enemies into a trap. Bubbles can also force enemies to commit or suffer losses while running away. Bubbles keep supers tackled when they would otherwise be able to escape in lowsec. In a nutshell they change the calculus of fleet pvp completely for FCs which really encourages higher level game play and more challenging fights where a better FC and his fleet can shine over superior numbers that would lose a warp-to-0-brawl. Brawling doctrines still exist somewhat in nullsec, but the doctrinal choices are much more interesting and range control is paramount. In the end this is just one factor that encourages far superior fleet and individual pvp in 0.0. Other factors are just the nature of the beast that nullsec is fought over higher stakes and attracts people who want to do ‘srs business’ pvp so the skill level can be very high.

You are both CEO of No. Mercy and Alliance Executor of Triumvirate. How did you become Alliance Executor?

NoMercy joined TRI when I restarted the corp in August 2014 after coming back from a 2.5 year absence. NoMercy was enjoying the catch thunderdome for small gang roaming and pvp when TRI deployed down to Curse as our neighbors and invited us to join. I stepped up as one of the lead FCs using my prior game experience and as the existing leadership became busier with RL and Wargod eventually resigned, I naturally gravitated into the spot.

What are some of the trials and tribulations of being Alliance Ex?

The same as any senior leadership position. You must be willing to accept public scrutiny and the fact that you will never make everyone happy, all the time.

You will put in long hours and be expected to be around daily. Alliances whose leaders disappear or perform the cliche afk-executor role are circling the drain.

Discuss some of your most memorable moments within Triumvirate, and outside of Triumvirate.

NoMercy had a t1 cruiser roam for our first corp birthday while we were living in Derelik after Gentlemen’s Club. Someone posted it on scrapheap challenge and turned into a gank night 🙂 We had 150 people show up, jump into ahac omens and travel with us to provi where we brawled down a 80 man drake fleet. We had so many ships left over we flew to stain, dropped fleet at the star and did a FFA thunderdome to see who the last man standing would be. I almost made it to the end 🙂

I remember doing supercap hotdrops onto an supported PL dread fleet bashing NC towers in venal with Elo Knight and Ben Booley, lighting the cyno, alt tabbing back to my aeon only to find the client crash. Shouting ‘oh fuck oh fuck’ in comms as they loaded grid, giving elo a heart attack because he thought I just cyno’d him into a trap… but they ganked a naglfar and slipped away. Too ez.

But then I got elo and booley’s supers killed a couple weeks later while fcing a nice battleship/cap fight against venal residents to save our POS. Somehow I ignored the fact that PL was deployed to H-PA in jump range during the entire fight, bumping our supers into the shields when PL’s entire cap fleet jumped into local. Their titans promptly vollied what was left of the POS’ structure and killed our supers. Bad times.

In TRI we continue to take fights outnumbered, many times it goes well…sometimes it does not. TRI took 100 in fleet including 60 rattlesnakes against 400+ CFC in domis and AFs over a cadmium moon in vale. We were winning until euro goons executed a nice jump clone trap from fountain to 40 pre-staged dreads in tribute which blapped us, wiping the rattlesnakes almost to a man. Gee gee.

There are so many good fights its really hard to pick just a few. Faction war, low sec, Gents Club, Venal, Solo super hotdrops up north on jump freighter logi routes, small gang in curse, TRI’s winter 2014 campaign against the CFC, and now TRI’s offensive to the east… In the relatively few years that NoMercy has existed in the game, we really have punched above our weight class in picking fights and creating content for everyone.

From your perspective, what are the strengths and weaknesses of Triumvirate?

TRI is one of the highest SP alliances and oldest names in EVE. This is a double edged sword. TRI is unlike any previous incarnation with brand new leadership and ideas for EVE in 2015, not stuck in nostalgia of what EVE was in 2007. Although we have a lot of rich and high SP players with a high individual skill level, we also face high attrition rate of bitter vets who understandingly have diminished interest in the game after playing for a decade. Wargod is a good example of this. I choose to leverage this weakness into a strength by providing an environment where the old guard can play and mentor the new generation of aggressive PVPers who are keen to move from one challenging campaign to another and crush everything before them!

How long have you been an FC? How did you get started FCing?

I have been FCing since I started the game in Amarr FW. I had some experience in guild management and leading raids in Age of Conan during the 6 months I played that and its been a learning experience and long road ever since. I guess taking a leadership role was something I naturally gravitated to–“if you want something done right, do it yourself”.

What advice would you have for a new FC?

Have a plan. Put yourself in the enemy’s shoes and ask yourself how you would fight your fleet if you were them. Then take those most dangerous courses of enemy action and plan against them to pre-empt their actions. Give the enemy as few opportunities to put you in a position of weakness as you can. This applies not to just to strategic fleet fights but also to small gang roaming. There are no fair fights in EVE, and if you expect otherwise you are being naive. Take any advantage you can in a fleet fight.

What is your favorite fleet comp to FC?

Battleships! I was known in the old days for running armor Amarr battleship doctrines when Hellcats were still a thing, and before that brawling battleships in low sec and faction war. In TRI I pushed hard for a heavy Rattlesnake doctrine during our winter war with the CFC post-Phoebe but it never really came into its own until the spring offensive against the drone lands. The Rattlesnake has probably become TRI’s most iconic doctrine of incarnation but we also use armor machariels for sniper gangs.

Are you looking forward to ‘fozzi-sov’? How do you think it will impact the alliance?

I am not. I believe its a flawed mechanic that just isn’t fun to play based on feedback from the duality war games and entosis links on TQ. We will have to see how the meta changes in July and adjust accordingly. TRI should be able to defend its sov easily enough as we took it before the changes, avoiding any beacon grind. TRI has strong allies in the region and owns “shit sov” that most people don’t want anyway since they underestimate the real value of Etherium Reach as the gateway to the east.

Tell us a bit about No. Mercy, and what you look for in a potential recruit.

NoMercy is a family. I cant genuinely recall the last time we’ve had drama or even arguments in corp despite flying in high stress, high stakes combat daily.

Many of the current members since the rebirth of the corp have applied in groups from previous corps that closed down so they have brought this previous working relationships into the greater whole and gelled. NoMercy is always selectively recruiting experienced and competent PVP pilots who aren’t looking to be spoon-fed.

Any potential member must understand I hold my corp to a very high standard and expect them to be the role models for whichever alliance were in.

If someone wants to join N.M, what is the process?

Simply join No.Mercy pub channel in game and ask to speak to a recruiter, often myself. Be prepared to give full APIs for any relevant accounts.

What is your most embarrassing killmail/story?

Other than jumping my titan into a NCDOT cap kill fleet instead of bridging? 😀 I remember my first loss in EVE was running hydochloric acid between low sec stations in my bestower for 12 MILLION ISK PROFIT PER RUN!! Until I met Mr. Tachyon Abaddon on the lowsec side of the gate. Rude.

Interview: StarFleetCommander

Posted in Uncategorized on July 11, 2015 by shaleelianne

Thank you for doing this interview StarFleetCommander. Explain why you chose the name, StarFleetCommander?

I chose the name StarFleetCommander because the day I made this account, I had just watched the New Star Trek (2009), so I guess I just thought of the film.

Your corp title is ‘Dave Ja Vu (SUNFLOWER)’ …explain.

Well the SUNFLOWER part was because all of the V0lta members are in a wassapp group and I guess we were talking about something and my name came up, but the app auto corrected it to “sunflower,” so it just stuck lol. DAve Ja Vu is because my name in David IRL, so I guess Dave Ja Vu is fitting :).

How long have you been playing EVE?

I started to play in 2009, but really got into pvp late in 2011 when I joined V0lta. Before, I was only in wormhole PVE corps and the guys I was with at the time tried to avoid pvp, but I was very curious and I got some kills here and there. So all in all about 6-7 years.

Tell us about your first experience playing EVE.

My first experience playing EVE was in like 2006-07 when I joined HYDRA and was just a kid. I was trolled out of the game cause I was just a kid 🙂 and EVE was such much harder back then.

What advice would you give to a newbie just starting out EVE?

Get involved into a corp that is active and wants to do things. Be active yourself, it’s the only way you will learn; go out and die a few times and from that you will get better hopefully.

Have you always flown in null sec, or have you tried other parts of the game? (if you’ve tried other parts, discuss that a bit)

I’ve done most things. I’ve lived in every sec of the game from LOW/HI to NULL and Wormholes. At the start of this TRI MK4, we lived in Pure Blind, then went to low sec. I do love the nomadic like style, not really enjoy being in one place too long. I like fighting different people. Back in the day in Verge of Collapse, we used to fight people all over EVE. So all in all, I’ve pretty much lived everywhere.

How much of that time has been within Triumvirate? And, what other alliances have you been a part of?

The last two years have been with the current TRI. Before that was Verge Of Collapse, a Wormhole alliance that lived in a C5, but primarily pvped in null sec. This was by far my most fun time in EVE during the time VoC was alive. Before that, it was occupational Hazzard, a large Merc alliance ( around 1500 members)- where we spent most of our time fighting GOONS and taking other contracts. For example we took a contract to help -A- evict RA.

Discuss some of your most memorable moments within Triumvirate, and outside of Triumvirate.

In this TRI, its was at the beginning the FADE campaign in the north, during this time GOONS were on deployment down south so we was fighting the likes of TNT,Co2,SMA,RAzor,fcon. It was great fun and there was so many kills to be had. But out side of Tri, the entire of VOC was awesome living in whs and poping our heads out only to dominate everyone.

How long have you been an FC? How did you get started FCing?

I’ve been Fcing for about 3-4 years. I started to FC by being Wargods secondary FC and learning from him and watching him.

What advice would you have for a new FC?

Watch and learn a good FC.

What is your favorite fleet comp to FC?

Hmm this is hard. I really enjoy Teir 3 nados, but ofc ISHTARZZZZZZZZZ!!!!

Are you looking forward to ‘fozzi-sov’? How do you think it will impact the alliance?

Fozzie I think might be headache for both the attacker and defender. It’s going to make holding sov annoying. It wont impact large coalitions with a lot of alliances.

Tell us a bit about your corporation, Volta,  and your roll within your corporation.

V0lta is corp with A LOT of old characters from the 1st TRI. It’s a mix of PL, Hydra, NC and others but generally a group of people that stick together no matter where they go. We all hang out on team speak even if we are in other alliances.

My role at the moment is kinda leading the corp.

What does Volta look for in a potential recruit?

If you want to join you have to have a decent KB and history. If you have a vouch it makes it easier to get in.

If someone wants to join your corp, what is the process?

App on the forums, mail me or endo and we will interview you.

What is your most embarrassing killmail/story?

When I was a young player I killed a Caldari Navy Raven, which had loads of faction loot. It was in low sec so I was flagged. I picked up the loot and jumped to high sec and the police killed me and I lost all the loot. No kill mail was generated as no player got on the mail 🙂

How many Alliance Tournaments have you been a part of?

Three so far, soon to be four.

What have you enjoyed most about doing the tourneys?

The pvp in the tournament is completely different to TQ pvp; you have to think of everyone’s angle and every ship. Each ship is as important to the next one, be it a merlin or a vindicator, they all have roles and are both important.

How do you think TRI will do in the upcoming tourney?

I hope to win 😛

Interview; Vlad Cetes

Posted in Uncategorized on July 4, 2015 by shaleelianne

How long have you been playing EVE? Is Vlad Cetes your original toon? Also, explain your name, does it have any meaning?

Since January 2006. Yes it is. Vlad Cetes comes from my old UT2k4 name, which was Vlad The Impaler, but that name was already taken and at the time you could only have two words in your name.

Who do you most admire in EVE, and why? (can be people, corps, alliances, or devs)

I had some great times with the original MC (clearing the old NC out of the North for the “New North” and then beating up on -A- and IAC in Catch). I’ve been in the game so long it’s hard to say who or what I admire the most. Maybe easier to make a list: Wraithstorm (good guy, decent but not great FC, hoot on comms), Seleene (best FC I ever flew under), Manny (great content generation), and Garst (for making EVE fun again after CFC).

What is the most appealing thing about EVE? Also, least appealing?

The most appealing part of EVE is getting the big ship (caps, supers, high value stuff) kills. The least appealing is getting all ready for a fight and getting blue balled.

What other games do you play besides EVE?

Right now, just GTA V.

Outside of Null Sec, what other parts of the game have you tried?

The only thing I haven’t done is living in high sec. I’ve done everything else in the game.

What are some of the benefits of living in null versus other sec’s of the game?

The main benefit is the big and heavy fights. It’s the only region where you see really heavy and constant use of capitals. It’s also easy for a line member to stay in ships (OK but not really good income from anomalies or belt ratting).

How long have you been with Triumvirate? And, what other alliances have you been a part of? How do they differ from Tri?

I joined TRI at the beginning of May (almost 2 months, wow time flies). 10 years in the game means I’ve been around most blocs. I’ll just list the major ones:

Storm Armada
Natural Selection
IT Alliance
In Exile
FA (again)
TRI mk( IV or V idk does NCDOT count as a TRI mk?)

Discuss some of your most memorable moments in the game so far.

My second day in null sec, the guy who was our corp’s mentor called for a fleet. Joined in a t1 missile Ferox (back in 06 mind you, no Drake) and we killed a Veritas Imortalis Thanatos in Great Wildlands. I’ll never forget his words “you’re spoiled now, getting a carrier kill your 2nd day in 0.0”
Killing 5 PL titans in Y-2. IT & PL were fighting over a timer & -A- brought over a bomber fleet to kill dc’d PL caps (-A- & IT were blue at the time). IT then tackled all the PL titans on the field and we warped over to get on the killmails.

Burning to QRH to try and save Garst’s titan after he jumped instead of bridged. It was a great adrenaline dump since it was race against time.

What are your initial thoughts on Entosis?

I think it’s a great tool for trolling renters/bad alliances by turning off station services.

Are you looking forward to ‘fozzi-sov’? How do you think it will impact the alliance?

I’m on the fence about fozzi-sov. I do think it will take the focus off of the massive blobs (win through numbers and no skill *caugh CFC*) and allow more skill to be a determinant. I don’t like that it will make the time grind worse though, because it is fixed duration and there is nothing players can do to speed it up. I would add that the entosis link time to capture should be sped up or down by player actions (either damaging/repping the structure or hacking mini-sites).

What is your most embarrassing killmail/story?

Two of them. First was jumping a rather pimped Vargur into K3J when there were hostiles in local and getting ganked.

Second was shooting a bustard in a Nightmare in low-sec with Star Fraction around. They weren’t supposed to shoot but the wankers blew me up anyway. Part of the reason I have VERY bad blood with them.

What are you most looking forward to within the next year in EVE?

I’m looking forward to getting good fights now that we have secured Etherium Reach and Spire for a good alliance income. It will be nice to go third party on other people now just to get a good fight.

What is your favorite solo ship to fly, and why?

I don’t solo much, but when I did it was the Machariel. Good agility, VERY good dps application and range with autocannons, decent EHP.

If you could change one thing about EVE what would it be?

I would overhaul FW. It hasn’t changed fundamentally since 2008. I would change it so that it begins to really affect the in-game story line and make system capture worth something. I would also change the FW alignments (maybe empires vs drifters or empires vs pirates) to bring something fresh in.

In your opinion, why should someone join Tri versus other null sec alliances?

What makes Tri really good is that is has the benefits of a high SP alliance (very good FCing, high end doctrines that can punch above their weight, logistics that know what they are doing) without becoming an “EVE is a job” alliance. It’s very chilled and laid back, you can have a lot of fun while also flying with some very good players. There’s also good content (wormholes, 3rd partying other people, etc).

How long have you been a role player on EVE?

Since the end of 2006.

What is the best thing about role playing?

Creating your own story in EVE, something that is more lasting than just going out and pew pewing or making ISK.

Tell us about your RP character, ie: back history and his motivations.

Vlad is a synthetic life-form, it’s a armored core with a SKIN (nanotech that predates ship skins since it can’t be changed on the fly) that acts like flesh and blood. Vlad was originally a Caldari tube child bred to be a fast grown pod pilot, birth to full adult in 2 years. Unfortunately the process caused his body to begin failing, and as Vlad begin replacing organic parts with cybernetics he eventually became all machine, with his mind uploaded to a self created supercomputer hive mind. Fittingly Vlad feels that synthetics (Drifters, Sleepers, Sansha) are superior to humans and that they will overthrow normal humans.

Alignment on a D&D Scale: Neutral Evil. Vlad is a mercenary and a psychopath. He does what is practical to advance his own interests (power for himself and his own kind) without qualms of who or what he hurts to do so.

In your opinion, why should someone try out RP on EVE?

It’s another dimension to the game. If you are into immersion in the game universe, the RP part of the game really creates a sense of you being your character instead of you being an alliance grunt or being a high sec care bear.

What advice do you have for a new rper?

Read up on the EVE lore, EVElopedia is a great resource. Read some of the character blogs but keep in mind that your character won’t know that happened. Jump in and get started, EVE is pretty open with what your character can do as long as it isn’t completely outrageous.

Please link any blogs, killboards, or videos that you’d like to share.

Interview: AoTxLoGiX

Posted in Uncategorized on June 30, 2015 by shaleelianne

How long have you been playing EVE? Is AoTxLogiX your original toon? Also, explain how you came up with the name AoTxLogiX.

Been playing since late 2010 and on and off since then, Logix is my original and currently only toon as I often don’t have time for training and buying alts when I can have other people like Rise do stuff for me. AoTx is actually the name of an old clan I was apart of before I joined EVE and was my Xbox and PS3 gamer-tag as such I just tend to transfer this name to most of my other games that I play.

Who do you most admire in EVE, and why? (can be people, corps, alliances, or devs)

Foremost I love the people in Eve without the people and the culture that has been created around EVE I would probably not play. Being able to just log on and talk to people from different countries and different parts of the world with completely different culture yet understand one another in terms of EVE is just awesome.

What is the most appealing thing about EVE? Also, least appealing?

Most appealing would be the pvp. Being able to form up with friends and getting a great fight outnumbered against others that believe they will dunk your smaller fleet has to be the most gratifying feeling this game can give you. As for least appealing aspect of EVE for me would have to be mining and general pve, its all the same grind and in almost every case its too safe and easy. Challenges are fun.

What other games do you play besides EVE?

I tend to play strategy games such as the Total War serious or Paradox Interactive games a lot. Some other games as well but at heart I tend to be centered around games that make me think about my future strategy to counter my enemy.

Have you always flown in null sec, or have you tried other parts of the game? (if you’ve tried other parts, discuss that a bit)

Within the last two years is when I started getting really into null sec, before that I did just about everything. I learned everything I could about the game in high-sec when I first began thanks to my first corp Reverberation Inc who have since died out. After them I started my own high sec pirate corp that was okay for what we did which was sitting in Amarr shooting people that we could easily gank.

I tried wormhole life for a few months with a small group of friends but learned that if you do not have a steady group of 10 or more to run sites and roam through the space the life gets boring. After that I joined Morior Invictus. who at the time were apart of The Retirement Club (401k) living in Venal along with BL at the time. Was my first time in a large null sec entity that fought in large fights and was the first time I ever truly had fun in this game. Never gets old seeing 30+ dreads in a fleet and sieging a whole system of poses in a few hours. After 401k died I joined N3 and after all that I find myself in TRI mark 4(?).

What are some of the benefits of living in null versus other sec’s of the game?

For one the pvp, its pretty much everywhere you look there is something to shoot be it structures or other players. The pve is good as well if that’s what you are into but overall null is all about the large conflicts among the many alliances. Getting into a fight involving over 2k characters in 10% tidi for countless hours can get pretty crazy.

How much of that time has been within Triumvirate? And, what other alliances have you been a part of? How do they differ from Tri?

I’ve been with TRI for about 4 months or so. I’ve also been apart of The Retirement Club, Spaceship Samurai, and The Kadeshi. The Retirement Club in general was a far larger alliance in terms of ability to throw capitals at a problem, could easily get 30+ dreads into a fleet with a fairly large super and titan fleet as well. Spaceship Samurai we joined just before the Halloween war mostly because my corp at the time had a titan and their entire alliance did not. Rather than join S2N we joined them to aid them but found them to be too noobie for our corp so we joined The Kadeshi who were quite similar to TRI at the time.

Discuss some of your most memorable moments in the game so far.

One of my most memorable moments in EVE and null sec in general was a fight for a station up north against the CFC during my time in 401k. It was a final station timer that they had to defend and during the time they also had the war in fountain against test raging. We expected them to form to fight us as they didn’t want another station to fall into our’s for BL’s hands at the time. We had intel that they had brought about 300-400 dudes in slow cats as well as a dominix fleet to fight our nearly filled dominix fleet. We killed a ~40 man raven fleet from a random alliance at the time and just as they entered local to fight us we went to a safe POS and safe’d up. They began to shoot the station as it would have been easier then repping its armor and shields up and as they entered low structure with it we off-lined our sbu’s in the system. This forced them to either re-sbu the system to shoot it or repair the shield, armor and structure in order to reset the timers. We then got on a titan and left back home.

I have to say, you are an amazing logistics pilot (does sucking up get me on the watch list and pre-locks? 😀 )How long have you been doing logi?

Though sucking up gets you brownie points I prefer isk for watch list spots as they are a highly sought after item! 😛 As for how long I’ve been doing logi probably since I could fly a t2 Logi ship Id say. Its something that for a new player is a cheap and easy option when first beginning EVE. Takes very little time to be taught how to do logi work in a small or large fleet while also being highly valuable to the fleets overall survival. Without the logi backbone nearly every fleet doctrine in EVE would be a failure no matter the skills of the pilot. Its simply a job that is necessary.

What advice would you have for a new logi pilot?

Foremost DO NOT BE AFRAID TO ASK QUESTIONS. I can be a a troll and asshole to many people but when it comes to someone joining a fleet and asking what they have to do in order to be successful at being a logi pilot ASK. I rather have to take a few extra minutes of my time to make sure you understand what to do then you become a weak link that could compromise the fleet. As a general rule I make sure that all the logi have the correct fit and I tell people to talk over me if they feel something needs to be said that is important. We use a whisper in mumble during fights for a reason so that the FC can talk and we can talk and not interfere with each other. So set your whisper up and use it.

What is your favorite fleet comp to logi for?

I enjoy doing logi for the T3 fleets the most. The T3 fleet that we run uses Oneiros as Logi but due to how the T3 fleet operates the fit for the Oneiros is dual prop consisting of a MWD as well as AB. This ofc means that it is not close to cap stability so it relies on pilot skills to manage your cap boosting. This shines when done correctly but if just one mistake is made and unable to be corrected it can lead to the death or the whole logi wing or the whole fleet.

What are your initial thoughts on Entosis so far?

I have been personally lucky to not have to use the Entosis so far but from what I can tell it seems okay. With dominion based sov the problem was the grind relied on a lot of DPS which then relied on the use of either capitals or a lot of sub-caps to apply that dps in a timely fashion. With Entosis based sov its a fixed time limit in order to achieve your goal and so far I feel that its just the same as Dominion Sov but instead of being able to bring more dps to go quicker you are stuck for a set period depending on the level of the system. Then again we have a few more weeks to see if there will be any changes to the mechanic.

Are you looking forward to ‘Fozzi-sov’? How do you think it will impact the alliance?

I look forward to Fozzie-sov as I feel it will bring something new to sov whether it is a good or bad thing I have yet to go on duality and test it out so I cant say with certainty. Will it cause some alliances to drop half or more of their sov to counter? I’m not sure, as for TRI I think we have a great plan to live with Fozzie based Sov and I cant wait to see what happens.

What is your most embarrassing killmail/story?

My most embarrassing loss-mail was likely this ratting tengu: Kill: AoTxLoGiX (Tengu) I was running a 4/10 and I was cocky with my fit against blood raider neuts :S So I caused new spawn far too early. Lets just say they neuted me out and my tank broke quickly after. I was more worried at the time that it would show up on the alliance kill board and people would make fun of me at the time but thankfully it didn’t and my corp mates had a good laugh and I got the loot and moved on. Was a great learning experience.

What are you most looking forward to within the next year in EVE?

Mostly to see what happens with TRI and Fozzie-Sov. TRI is a great alliance that I enjoy, not too spergy but just the right amount and with Fozzie sov coming soon the landscape of null may well change in a big way.

What is your favorite solo ship to fly, and why?

To solo I would say the sabre. Its cheap and fun to fly whether alone or with a gang/fleet. You have the ability to hold nearly any ship in the game with bubbles and your fast enough to gtfo of most situations but are cheap enough that you don’t care if you lose it.

If you could change one thing about EVE what would it be?

If I could change one thing in eve it would have to be the Ishtar. I hate the fleet doctrine so much. Its too easy to just drop drones and kite the enemy to death while being nearly impossible to catch unless your anchor/fc messes up in a big way.

In your opinion, why should someone join Tri versus other null sec alliances?

TRI is an unusual alliance. Some corps are former WH groups while others have been in null-sec their entire lifespan be it in a care bear alliance or pvp only group. We are willing and able to fight outnumbered and put everything on the line if need be in order to achieve our goals. We are willing to sacrifice quite a few dreads if we need to win a fight and even if we don’t win a fight we are happy to take it as its content that would otherwise not be made. Fights such as this.

Interview: Ama Atavuli

Posted in Uncategorized on June 9, 2015 by shaleelianne

How long have you been playing EVE? Is Ama your original toon?

I originally started in early 2012, then got bored, I came back in August and have been playing ever since.

Who do you most admire in EVE, and why?

Myself. Secondly, Agent, Civil, JB, and Bob, my co-directors, for being a lot more level headed than I.

What is the most appealing thing about EVE? Also, least appealing?

The Sandbox. Gitting gud, learning to play is really grueling filled embarrassing mistakes and noobiness.

Have you always flown in null sec, or have you tried other parts of the game? (if you’ve tried other parts, discuss that a bit)

I’ve been played for some time in all areas of space, primarily Null and Wormholes. They all have their ups and downs. Wormholes were fun for a while until they turned into ganking and calling friends for help. Now wormholes are filled with bads, thats why I left. You do learn a lot in wormholes though, and make good money. Lowsec was dumb. Hisec was okay for Incursions but overall boring.

How much of that time has been within Triumvirate? And, what other alliances have you been a part of? How do they differ from Tri?

RLLO 2.0 spent 2 months in Tri in late 2014 until leaving wanting more USTZ. We joined Black Legion where we stayed for 4 months. BL is a good capable of hitting way above it’s weight. However it is also led by strong personalities, and it attracts some personalities that are difficult to deal with (excluding Elo, hes an ass but an amazing FC so he can be an ass if he wants). I was in Diplomatic Immunity for a little over a month with RLLO 3.0, I actually was the reason their founder picked that name( I said it sounded cool). They had potential but due to conflicting personalities and leadership struggles RLLO left and came back to Tri, for the better, I might add.

I would say BL differs from Tri in a largely cultural sense, their skill levels being roughly the same. BL felt very clickish, the cool kids, the outcasts etc (guess who RLLO was). All alliances have that to some extent but BL nurtured that culture.

Diplomatic Immunity was very new, and had little time to develop its culture while we were there. Lots of new players.

Discuss some of your most memorable moments in the game so far.

The first BL fleet I ever fleet I went on. We bridged 150 tengus into YA0- and killed 150 baltecs with minimal losses. Didn’t know that was possible before. It demonstrated how proper fits, fleet composition and an FC that can identify and take advantage of an enemies mistake can dominate out numbered.

fights like this

How long have you been an FC? How did you get started FCing?

For most of my gametime. I actually started FCing in Sky Fighters, running assault frigate/interceptor fleets into nullsec, I moved up to Ishtars/T3s/Shield BCs at a certain point during my history with that corp. I have FC’d in every group I’ve played with.

What advice would you have for a new FC?

The hardest part is stepping up, either forming a fleet, or taking over. That really just comes down to self-confidence and experience, you need both, but you can overcome a lack of either, know that. Find a fleet comp you like, and learn it. Fit ships in EFT while theres nothing going on, fit every ship in the game. Get used to any fleet comp you might fight. Look at killboards from big fights, watch videos. Make sure your guys aren’t stepping on you. You are the FC, you own coms during your fleet, you own fleet chat, you own everyones ship during the fleet. If anyone disagrees they can leave, there is no arguement in this, nor should there be. Learn to be decisive, speak with confidence and control, and stick by your decision. Don’t let people bully you into a decision you aren’t comfortable with, but take the advice that experienced players and FCs can lend. I could go on for ages but I think these are some of the most important things new FCs trip up with.

What is your favorite fleet comp to FC?

A well structured frigate/nano gang. Gilas are also awesome at everything.

What are your initial thoughts on Entosis so far?

The idea is good, I do think it needs tweaking however. I think the module is too easy to fit with too few penalties. I like the basic mechanic.

Are you looking forward to ‘fozzi-sov’? How do you think it will impact the alliance?

I am very excited for it. I think Tri will be strong during fozzie sov, we will be at risk from larger entities no less than today though. We will need lots of FCs to capture all the plexes and what not, but it should be a lot of fun.

Tell us a bit about your corporation, and what Rolled Out looks for in a potential recruit.

RLLO has been around for a little less than a year, initially we were a spin off of another wormhole corp, but we fell apart when Agent and I left to go to null. We reformed RLLO after leaving another corp that we werent happy with. That lasted until 4 months into Black Legion when we all got burnt out. Most of us more or less stayed together until we decided to reform and rejoin Tri.

Mostly we just look for people who are cool to hang out with that are willing to learn about the game, and aren’t total bads. Obviously SP is desireable and we’ve turned many people down for having to little of it, but it’s not as important as many people think.

If someone wants to join your corp, what is the process?

Join our public channel and talk to me or another recruiter 😛

What is your most embarrassing killmail/story?

I think I was the first person in EVE to fall for the entosis bait. In my defense it was late and I was tired.

Please link any blogs, killboards, or videos that you’d like to share.

Everyone who wants to learn how to be a good tackle pilot should watch that.

Interview: Ugly Eric

Posted in Interview on May 29, 2015 by shaleelianne

ugly eric

Thank you for doing this interview! My first question is… Why did you name your toon Ugly Eric? lol.

No worries. So, why am I Ugly Eric? I used to play FPS games (mostly Day of Defeat) before Eve. And because I kind of sucked at that, I started to play as Eric Clapton, not only because he is a kind of a guitar hero to me, but also because he is so horrible on some songs AND he is called slowhand, so it fitted my bad FPS gaming quite well. When I later started EvE a buddy of mine told, that at least some MMO’s have declined clear celebrity names. So I sat down a while thinking, and then came up with Ugly Eric. Before I started and was creating my character, I thought this actually was an rpg :p

How long have you been playing EVE?

About 7½ years now, with no more than 3-4 one month breaks.

Have you always flown in null sec, or have you tried other parts of the game? (if you’ve tried other parts, discuss that a bit)

No. I as many others started in high-sec. I ran missions with a RL buddy of mine for about a month. After that we started to try PvP in low-sec. Few days later we moved to low-sec. Few months later I ended up in The Polaris Syndicate alliance, who lived in ROIR-Y at the time. However, The Polaris Syndicate (a 100% Finnish alliance) ended up in coma, I ended up leading it, so we moved to low-sec to regroup. About a year later we moved the alliance to 0.0 and been in 0.0 ever since.

How much of that time has been within Triumvirate? And, what other alliances have you been a part of?

About a year and a half now in TRI. Prior to that I have been in (backwards chronological order):
– Bearf0rce one
– Game Over
– Confederation of xxpizzaxx
– Nulli Secunda
– Ewoks
– The Polaris Syndicate

Discuss some of your most memorable moments within Triumvirate, and outside of Triumvirate.

I’m going to start with TRI memory. It was the very moment I realized that is a good place to be at.

I was with my corp on a hac roam in deklein. TRI lived in x-7omu at the time. All of the sudden Starfleetcommander jumps on our corp comms and asks for a titan, as he knew I had one. At that moment I thought I was going to be a bridge and said ‘sure, lemme dock and log it in’. There I am logging the titan in and SFC asks me to fit DD on it. Well, a DD I fit and am ready to jump for a DD. When the cyno goes up and I see the location (VFK-IV) I had a half a second hesitation.

However I did jump. Cyno was on station at pretty much 0km. I DD the aggroing carrier, but due the cyno location CFC were able to undock a sabre, put a bubble and dock back up. I overload my MWD and align to deep safe. During all the about 3 minutes I was bubbled not a single person said anything of the cyno, but focused on killing dictors and few lads bumping me out of bubbles. When I eventually got to warp, local had spiked with about 100. I land to my deep safe and immediately align out to a random moon. As soon as I see the first probe on my dscan I warp again not to give out the deep safe. When I land to the random moon, a AF is sitting at 0 of me and immediately start to yell to local my location. I then proceed to warp again and once I land my DD timer was done and I could jump out to safety. When my titan was inside forcefield the pilot lighting the cyno got so much shit on him. But the point was, that when a situation was on, everyone focused on that.

Outside TRI? I think is the old Polaris Syndicate fights. Maybe some Great Wildlands times, when we had a fully Finnish 40 man armor BS fleet with triage support dunkin bads on a pos-fight and when our both triages got neuted really bad I called in for our both super carriers to jump in and save the Triages with cap transfers 🙂

From your perspective, what are the strengths and weaknesses of Triumvirate?

I think our biggest strength is the combination of high SP, not poor players, and better than average rl skill at playing this game. This allows us to have stuff like rattlesnake fleets and Machariel fleets and dunk other ppl with more numbers in same doctrines.

Weaknesses are 2. We are lazy as fuck, so we never have enough scouts and cynos, etc and this alliance is probably the slowest forming up alliance I have ever been in.

How long have you been an FC? How did you get started FCing?

I been FC’ng from my first pvp experience. It all started as a accident maybe. Me and a RL pal of mine were first time trying pvp, we knew absolutely nothing of it and went with rifters to low-sec. My rl Buddy just started to ask “what we gonna do now, where we going, shall I aggro etc” and I started to answer. Then another buddy joined, then a corpie. All of the sudden I had 10 guys on my roams. A little bit later I had 20. Some bit later I had 50. Then I had 200. So it just started 🙂

What advice would you have for a new FC?

Start small, try everything, learn by experience, not by advice 🙂 If you make a decision, keep it, at least for a while. Most important thing is to call a primary fast. It gives you time to think on strategy, alignments, positioning and better primaries. Don’t be afraid to lose. Don’t apologize too much, don’t be sorry too much. If you fuck up, say it to the guys. “Sorry, I fucked up, my bad”. They respect that. ALWAYS after fight have few trusty lads to talk with of what went good, what went bad etc.

What is your favorite fleet comp to FC?

It has to be my pure sex fleet comp. Formerly it was shield arty machs and anti-tackle and healthy amount of support. Something like 10 machs, 3 huginns, 3 damp/point lachesis, 3 scimis, 3 orthrus, 3 sabres, 3 ceppies. Every man has a role, every role must be executed to perfection. If they execute their roles, it can take up to 10 times more enemies.

Are you looking forward to ‘fozzi-sov’? How do you think it will impact the alliance?

I am very much. I think we will be one of the alliances capable to adopt to that fast and effective. We got enough FC’s to make it possible to fight 5 different fights simultaneously. However, our numbers are going to be an issue. On a good day we will be able to field 5×25 lads. But then again, I wouldn’t take it any other way.

How long have you been CEO of ‘Fistful of Finns’?

From the day it was born and theoretically before. FISTN was formed from the ruins of The Polaris Syndicate alliance, that I was CEO of, and my old corp Hyvat Pahat ja Eric, where I was CEO too.

Tell us a bit about your corporation, and what you look for in a potential recruit.

FISTN is not a corp. FISTN is lifestyle. Chill corp with only one rule. RL is always more important than game. We play lot of other games together, and we meet 2 times a year. Once in winter time in Finland for a weekend and once on summer time in Estonia for a prolonged weekend. FISTN will never die as a group of players. If EvE dies, FISTN will move on to some other game.

For a recruit, they need to speak clearly Finnish, need to be able to keep himself in ISK and able to withstand and partake in our humor.

If someone wants to join your corp, what is the process?

They convo me. I talk a bunch on convo, then we talk an hour or so on comms. After that, I’m pretty much able to tell weather the recruit is going to be a FISTN or not.

What is your most embarrassing killmail/story?

Probably the one that never generated a kill mail. I lost a Rapier to a Scimitar. T’was some Hydra dude with scimmy in a bubble. I warp my rapier there to kill him. However he was a pvp fit scimmy, so in scram + web I was and taking dmg. However, as I was dying kind of slow, I decided not to risk my pod and ejected at like 20% hull. When I ejected, my skills ceased to affect the ship and it’s hull % went to 0 and the ship popped. No kill mail generated.

Please link any blogs, kill boards, or videos that you’d like to share.

A Ton of Fun in Etherium Reach

Posted in Uncategorized on May 25, 2015 by shaleelianne

Because I literally log in one minute too late for the good fights, I’m going to post yet another Garst battle report, to keep you guys updated!

The last 72 hours have been a ton of fun in Etherium and a standout among the rather constant back and forth fights over the last few weeks. You can read about the past couple days in the battle reports above.

24MAY15 Order of Battle in the East

TRI is one of the minority of pvp alliances creating original pvp content and its no wonder that etherium reach has transformed from a barren wasteland at the start of 2015 into a lively battleground for fleet pvp and roamers. TRI’s model of creating our own wars is in stark contrast to many of the groups in EVE that blue up a portion of land and go AFK until they can find someone else’s fight to vulture. A good example is Co2 and even Razor coming today to help S2N against TRI. Naturally PL is still playing the ‘honorable third party’ propaganda angle but shows up daily to our fights since their contract purging Nulli ended.

XIX continues to hire more groups to fight TRI while retreating to geminate. This includes someone new using the name Mercenary Coalition (fighting SOLAR in kalevala and losing 30 man ishtar gangs/caps) and drone region renter militia that still haven’t figured out RMT slumlords like XIX couldnt care less about them and will abandon them come fozzie sov. Some of the evicted renters from Etherium Reach have started to work with Advent of Fate alliance who currently deployed to the vital chokepoint station of I6- in Cache to attack IRC. Separately the Oasa/Perrigan/Malpais renters still loyal to the old guard work together to fight against SOLAR and occasionally TRI or IRC.

Stainwagon deployed to Akora in the Forge but hasnt interacted much with our fights in the last few days.

S2N remains active in Uemon and assisted XIX in retaking some lowsec R32s that TRI has held, as expected, one of the few things XIX has (temporarily) reclaimed since the start of the war. S2N has slowly grinded down the entry constellations in etherium but TRI continues to defend our station in 8KE next to LXQ and O-LJ against near daily attack.

In short we are surrounded by enemies in every direction and loving it

After some back and forth battles all morning, TRI moved an ishtar fleet to LXQ to camp paala gate to stop nulli from reshipping while our dreads bashed O-LJ SBUs. Nulli formed an even larger Ishtar fleet and jumped into us, making it past our camp and burningg after our dreads in O-L 3j away by gate while we tried to interdict them, skirmishing a few times. We ran out of drones and logi and had to go grab more while they tackled our dreads. The SOLAR cerb tasked with clearing the sabre bubbling our dreads went AWOL for about 10 mins so we hectically rushed after Nulli after looting our drones to try and bust them out. Our dreads startbursted and we came on grid in O-l after Nulli while we only had a phoenix and revelation still tackled of the original 8. We warped in on the opposite side and attempted to clear dictors, but the process was too slow and the phoenix died heroically. We managed to kill enough tackle that the 2 S2N onyx’s failed to coordinate their points and the last revelation zoidberged out against all odds. Very stressful and fun fight for both sides. GF!…&kll_id=106647

TRI attempted to grab a hel + support fleet shooting POCOs in wicked creek, but ended up only snagging a few carriers with an instalock setup that kept blapping our sabres lol…&kll_id=106726

Advent dropped a staging tower/bait pos in IRC home system of QRH. IRC attacked it with dreads and domis, but was counter dropped by ~30 Advent using 2 triage carriers + nightmare/rattlesnakes, welping the domis. TRI rageformed Ishtars but could only pull 30+ in time, bridging in to the fight as the domis finished dying. By this point a S2N 30+ Ishtar gang had joined with Advent to kill IRC and we bridged into system at a ping over the pos, warping down to primary dictors to give IRC a fighting chance to extract. After killing tackle TRI focused on S2N Ishtars, killing many before they warped. We remained on field but struggled to killed any Advent with our numbers due to the superb work of their two triage pilots who regularly pulled back ships from armor or structure, including S2N ishtars after they merged fleets and warped back in.

IRC struggled to reship and regroup properly, losing half a dozen dreads peicemeal before finally we were able to coordinate their DPS onto the triage carriers holding the field. As both chimeras died TRI finally forced the faction bs inside the POS and killed the S2N ishtar fleet almost to a man. A very fun fight was had and props again to the Advent triage pilots for a job well done although they should have bumped them into the shields or extracted.…&kll_id=106895

TRI formed a rattlesnake fleet upon seeing reports of over 100+ Nulli, 120 CO2, 50 advent, and 100 XIX all working together to attack IRC’s home system and bait us into a fight. We ended up attempting to fight the Co2 fleet separate from the rest but bailed at the last minute to a POS since there was no reason to feed kills to 80 v 450 hostiles over no timer “just for fun”. While the enemy sat around bored on titans winging in public chats that we should come fight (aka feed), we held our planned alliance meeting and simply titan bridged home ignoring their trap. GG

An hour later TRI has a R64 coming out of RF. Nulli undocked a mere 50 ishtars + 30 bombers and made aggressive moves on our 100 man rattlesnake fleet, obviously baity since their fleet comp never stood a chance. 15 Nulli supers logged on and then off again in LXQ so we declined to take the fight, moving towards the expected scouted PL 100 t3 fleet sitting on a titan. We hoped to fight PL and get them out of the way before returning to Nulli and fighting them separately. Sadly our POS died but we were able to control the positioning, negating the S2N bombers and forcing the ishtars to jump into us as the PL landed at range and burned towards us. SOLAR supported with a 30 man ishtar gang at range and our TRI bomber FC got IRC/TCF/NOVA into a bomber wing in support.

I fucked up the jump distance (5.1ly RIP) for our triage carriers so we were forced to fight for most the battle without our planned logi, losing about 10 snakes before forcing the Pl T3s off the field by killing their logi and starting on their T3s. Had our triage come in from the start, im p. confident we would have saved 95% of the ships we lost as Pl+S2N would have been unable to break us without their own caps, safely tucked away in curse many midpoints away. As it ended we pushed the PL ishtars into retreat and cleaned up the ishtars.…&kll_id=107071

We moved onto a titan and bridged to O-L where nulli had reshipped into new ishtars and received reinforcements from the imperium again, this time in 40 RZR cerbs. The hostiles were shooting the final timer on our IHUB but just as we loaded grid our blue bomber wing scored an awesome run and killed half the ishtars. We cleaned up the rest and RZR left without even trying to fight (wise decision). We repped the system and reinforced a few POS including the new tower on the R64 we lost.…&kll_id=107130

Meanwhile SOLAR moved to kalevala to destroy a MC/renter fleet shooting their station.
